Can Vitiligo Patients Still Eat Vitamin C, Spicy Food, or Seafood?
After suffering from vitiligo, everyone is more concerned about what you can and cannot eat, so today I will talk about it again.
I. Should We Eat Fruits and Vegetables High in Vitamin C?It is said online that people with vitiligo cannot eat foods containing vitamin C. Is it really true that such as oranges, tomatoes, and kiwi berries cannot be eaten?
Patients with vitiligo do not need to avoid vitamin C. Appropriate consumption of foods containing vitamin C can assist in the treatment of vitiligo in reality. Vitamin C is the main antioxidant free radical substance in the body. As a coenzyme of oxidoreductase, it participates in the body's redox process and plays an important role in promoting digestive function and maintaining skin and nerve health.
II. Should We Avoid Spicy Food?
Are there any dietary restrictions for hot pot and barbecue? Can we eat spicy ingredients in daily seasonings, such as onions, garlic, peppers, mustard, etc.?
Eat as little oily and spicy food as possible. During the recovery process of vitiligo, spicy and irritating foods can cause body "Heatiness" (Shanghuo), a symptom in Traditional Medicines Theory. In addition, patients with sensitive skin may experience redness and itchiness, and in severe cases, skin allergies may occur.
It is very detrimental to the recovery and treatment of vitiligo. If it is in the development stage, it may also cause the white spots to spread. Therefore, it is best try to avoid eating spicy and irritating foods.
III. Can Fish, Shrimp and Seafood be Eaten?
Eat fish, shrimp and seafood selectively. The reason why marine fish, shrimps and crabs are harmful to vitiligo, is because the heterologous protein they contain may become allergens and cause the recurrence of allergic diseases.
Freshwater fish such as grass carp, black fish, herring, crucian carp, and carp are edible. Shellfish (oysters, raw oysters, clams, mussels, snails) are rich in copper elements needed by patients with vitiligo, and can also be eaten in moderation.
IV. Final Tips:
Vitiligo patients do not need special dietary restrictions, as long as they eat a balanced and healthy diet.
If a certain value is abnormal after professional examination, you can follow the doctor's advice and eat properly.
