How To Diagnosis and Test Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition in which there is a loss of brown color (pigment) from areas of skin, resulting in irregular white patches that feel like normal skin.
If your doctor suspects you have vitiligo, he or she will ask about your medical history, examine you and try to rule out other medical problems, such as dermatitis or psoriasis. He or she may use a special lamp to shine ultraviolet light onto the skin to determine whether you have vitiligo.
Your health care provider can usually examine your skin to confirm the diagnosis.
Sometimes, a health care provider may use a Wood's light. This is a handheld ultraviolet light that causes the areas of skin with less pigment to glow bright white.
In some cases, a skin biopsy may be needed to rule out other causes of pigment loss. Your doctor may also perform blood tests to check the levels of thyroid or other hormones, and vitamin B12.
In addition to gathering your personal and family medical history and examining your skin, your doctor may:
Take a small sample (biopsy) of the affected skin

Draw blood for lab tests

Avoid Diet for Vitiligo Treatment

The reason of vitiligo is the melanophores’ ability of synthesizing melanin decrease or disorder.
Therefore, all the factors which may affect the metabolism of melanin should be avoided.
Avoid Diet for Vitiligo Treatment

Vitamin C, which with greatest influence, can prevent dopaquinone to synthesize melanin. In the same time, it allowe the synthesized dopaquinone return to dopa, stopping the biosynthesis of melanin.
On the other hand, vitamin C will affect the intestinal absorption of copper ions, which can also reduce the copper oxidase activity in blood serum, affecting the tyrosinase activity. Therefore, patients with vitiligo should eat little or not eat vitamin C. For foods with rich vitamin C, they shouldn’t to eat or eat less, such as fresh orange, grapefruit, fresh date, hawthorn, cherry, kiwi, strawberry, bayberry, tomato and green pepper.

The over acid or spicy foods shouldn’t be ate.

Patients should eat foods which are rich with tyrosinase and minerals, such as lean meat, eggs, organ meats (liver, kidney, etc.), milk, fresh vegetables, beans and their products, peanuts, black sesame seeds and walnuts and other nuts, as well as some other black foods such as black rice, black beans, oysters, snails, clams, razor clam.

But you should know the diets can only improve the condition, not a permanent treatment for the patients.

Vitiligo is an acquired skin disease characterized by patches of unpigmented skin often surrounded by a heavily pigmented border.
How to Cure Vitiligo Naturally

Most people with vitiligo lose pigment in patches of normally pigmented skin, which is replaced by flat, white patches with irregular borders. This loss of pigmentation can occur in small patches on one side of the body or in large areas covering over 50 percent of the body. These patches are usually areas of your body that are exposed to the sun, such as your:
hands
face
arms
feet
However, there are some home remedies and other things that can be done for treatment.
Eat celery. Celery contains psoralen and psoralen has been known to increase the skin's natural reaction to sunlight.
Buy psoralen. These natural substances, found in the seeds of the psoralea corylifolia flower, that sensitize the human skin to tanning when in sunlight.
Choose the way you want to administer psoralen. There is an oral psoralen therapy that is digested. There is also an oil form that can be put directed on the targeted skin area. A company by the name of Anti-Vitiligo currently makes a form of the topical psoralen therapy that contains a percentage of psoralean corylifolia.

Participate in ayurvedic. Ayurvedic is an Indian form of medicine that combines herbal/natural remedies with surgery to treat vitiligo. In the ayurvedic approach to treatment, the digestive track is instantly targeted. It is all about using an alternative approach to treat vitiligo. First, the proper diet is suggested with a strict elimination of salt. The approach is to remove the toxens (ama) and then purifying the body with oils, heat therapy and puragation. Blood is removed during a procedure called venipuncture. Organic herbs are administered and sometimes even leeches are applied to the affected areas. Ayurvedic is a different approach to medicine, but some health care professionals highly recommend it.

Vitiligo Treatment In Hong Kong

Vitiligo is a disorder in which white patches of skin appear on different parts of the body. This happens because the cells that make pigment (color) in the skin are destroyed. These cells are called melanocytes . Vitiligo can also affect the mucous membranes (such as the tissue inside the mouth and nose) and the eye.

Who Is Affected by Vitiligo?

Many people develop it in their twenties, but it can occur at any age. The disorder affects all races and both sexes equally, however, it is more noticeable in people with dark skin.
People with certain autoimmune diseases (such as hyperthyroidism) are more likely to get vitiligo than people who don’t have any autoimmune diseases. Scientists do not know why vitiligo is connected with these diseases. However, most people with vitiligo have no other autoimmune disease.
Vitiligo may also run in families. Children whose parents have the disorder are more likely to develop vitiligo. However, most children will not get vitiligo even if a parent has it.

What Are the Symptoms of Vitiligo?

White patches on the skin are the main sign of vitiligo. These patches are more common in areas where the skin is exposed to the sun. The patches may be on the hands, feet, arms, face, and lips. Other common areas for white patches are:
The armpits and groin (where the leg meets the body)
Around the mouth
Eyes
Nostrils
Navel
Genitals
Rectal areas.
People with vitiligo often have hair that turns gray early. Those with dark skin may notice a loss of color inside their mouths.
Will the White Patches Spread?
There is no way to tell if vitiligo will spread. For some people, the white patches do not spread. But often the white patches will spread to other areas of the body. For some people, vitiligo spreads slowly, over many years. For other people, spreading occurs quickly. Some people have reported more white patches after physical or emotional stress.

Vitiligo Treatment In Hong Kong

UVB light treatment for vitiligo
Exposing the affected skin to UVB lamps is a common treatment option. It is one of the simplest treatments and can easily be performed at home with a small lamp.
Home treatment is recommended because it is most effective when the patient uses the lamp daily. If these treatments are carried out in clinics, the patient needs to visit 2-3 times per week, which slows down recuperation time.
If the white spots are located across large areas of the body, UVB phototherapy will have to be performed in a hospital with a full body treatment. It is important to mention that even if evidence has suggested that UVB phototherapy, particularly when combined with other treatments, has a positive effect on vitiligo, it is still quite unpredictable and undependable.
There is still no real treatment that will totally re-pigment the skin to its full potential.
UVA light treatment for vitiligo
UVA treatment is most commonly conducted in a hospital clinic. Firstly, a drug is taken that increases the skin's sensitivity to ultraviolet light. The affected skin undergoes a series of treatments, exposing it to high doses of UVA light.
To see any noticeable improvements, the patient will normally have several sessions. Progress will be evident after 6-12 month of twice-weekly sessions.
Skin camouflage
In many cases, when vitiligo is considered mild, some of the white patches can be camouflaged with cosmetic colored creams and makeup. The patient should select tones that best match their skin features.

If creams and makeup are correctly applied, they can last 12-18 hours on the face and up to 96 hours for the rest of the body. Most of the topical applications are waterproof.
